Overview:
With an average annual temperature of 81 degrees Fahrenheit, Fortaleza is a popular tourist destination for Latin America and Europe. Its pristine beaches and beautiful blue water are what make Fortaleza an attractive destination. However, for its many tourist attractions, Fortaleza has impoverished districts and has also been a hot bed for international crimes, including the trafficking of minors. Your team will come into this city with a message of hope that you will be allowed to share - the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Ministry Description:
During your time in Fortaleza, you will be working with a Brazilian missionary from the Awana program. You will have opportunities to participate in local Awana clubs and to possibly present Awana to churches who are interested in beginning the program. The second half of the trip, you will help lead a Bible Camp. You will be in charge of leading music and games, telling Bible stories and sharing your testimony as you make an impact in the lives of the children there.
Food and Lodging:
You will be staying in a local missionary's home during your time in Fortaleza. While you are there, food will be prepared for you by the missionary's family and local people. During the camp, the team will be involved in preparing meals for the children. The food will consist of food common to the region.
Airport & Transportation:
YMI will arrange all of your transportation during your trip as it is included in the trip cost. Your team will enter Brazil through Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport and proceed to Pinto Martins International Airport in Fortaleza.
Visa & Passport:
You will need to possess a passport that will be valid at least 6 months after the date you enter the country. Within 90 days of arrival, you will need to obtain a tourist visa from the Brazilian Consulate in the United States. To better understand the process and to help obtain the visa, YMI recommends you use Travel Document Systems (www.traveldocs.com). They will work to obtain your visa for you. If you are part of a YMI Team, we will contact you to let you know when it is time to obtain the visa and any steps you will need to take. Church teams are responsible for ensuring all of their mission participants have a Brazilian visa prior to departure.
Vaccinations:
Please consult your doctor, local travel clinic and the CDC (Center for Disease Control) website at www.cdc.gov for information on appropriate vaccinations for your country of destination.
