Youth At Risk

A 2006 study by the Barna Group (Ventura, California) found that 60 percent of U.S. young adults in their 20s who were involved in a church during their teen years, are no longer spiritually active. The study suggests youth ministry in the U.S. is failing in both discipleship and faith formation, unable to produce sustainable faith beyond high school.

A second Barna Group survey in December of 2009 found that today's U.S. teens are taking cues from a U.S. culture that's made it unpopular to aggressively evangelize. The number of born-again Christian teenagers who have shared their faith with non-believers within the last year has declined from 63 percent in 1997 to just 45 percent in 2009.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This growing disengagement of young adults and reluctance of teens to evangelize is what Youth Missions International is seeking to address by training youth and providing ministry opportunities where they can share their faith with unbelievers - opportunities that strengthen a teen's relationship with Christ and awaken a life-long passion for serving God and sharing the Gospel.

We can change the alarming statistics mentioned above, but we need the support of our Christian community. If God has put our nation's youth on your heart, you can make a tremendous impact by supporting Youth Missions International financially. Faithful electronic monthly giving provides YMI with the reliable funding we need to effectively plan and grow this amazing ministry.
